I’m Marius, certified mountain guide, and I set up this website to share with you some of the most beautiful places the Carpathians have to offer. I love the mountains and the vibes and energy they charge you with! Practically, I grew up hiking. My first trail was the one winding up to my parents’ chalet, in a mountain hamlet somewhere in the Great Mountain (Muntele Mare) massif of Northern Transylvania. Spending my time outdoors and exploring nature has become part of my day-to-day life.
By now I have hiked most of the important massifs of the Romanian Carpathian Arch and I also traveled to the ridges of the Tatra Mountains (Poland) and the Southern part of the great Highlands of Scotland.
Everywhere travelled I also enjoyed discovering beautiful and authentic people leaving in sparse, mountain villages, forgotten by time. Despite all the wonderful places I have seen, I must admit that the Apuseni (Western Carpathians) are the place I enjoy most every time my feet take me there. It is why I want to share their landscapes with as many people in search for an active, healthy and relaxing way of spending their time.
Hiking in nature encompass real benefits for the body, mind and soul. That is why in my tours you will learn new things about these benefits, about the complex aspects of nature, you will learn the hiking techniques, how to use a compass and a map and we’ll talk about gear recommendations too. We’ll observe the landscapes, the flora and the fauna and, last but not least, we’ll enjoy an active day in the mountains and you will discover the stories and the legends of the area.
All Active Weekends tours are created bearing in mind the principles of ecotourism, in which the impact over the environment is low as possible. We will get closer to the local communities, learn about their ways, help them in their future developments by collaborating with local, small tourism businesses in these areas: (traditional guest houses, local tourism agencies, sole traders). All this will guarantee you a true and authentic experience in the Carpathian Mountains.
My tours have been developed on various difficulty levels (starting from easy trails designed for beginners, to more intense routes meant for experienced hikers). Based on your group request and your level of fitness, the tours can be altered in order to be suitable for everyone
Hiking in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains is the best way to see beautiful landscapes, explore vast wilderness areas and enjoy ancient traditions.
So what are you waiting for? Let’s schedule our next hike!
